THERE IS ALOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT METAL ROOFING ON THIS PAGE....

How can a Metal Roof save energy?
Many conventional roofing materials, asphalt shingles, for example, absorb energy from the sun. Metal, on the other hand, reflects most of the sun’s rays. At day’s end, metal also cools more quickly. As a result, the attic space remains cooler, as does the living space below. Conventional roofing materials tend to absorb and retain heat, therefore requiring more energy to maintain a cooler living space

                                                                               METAL - GREEN PRODUCT

Metal is one of the most environmentally and sustainable materials you can choose for your home's roof.Below are several of the reasons why metal is a good choice for your home and the environment.

Recyclable - Metals are exceptional building materials that can claim both recycled content and recyclability by industry recognized green building definitions. A metal roof is constructed of a minimum of 20% recycled content, and many times this approaches 60%. Additionally, metal roofs can be 100% recycled once they're taken out of service. Conversely, asphalt shingles comprise an estimated 6.8 million tons of landfill waste each year, nearly 3% of all municipal solid waste.

Energy Efficient - Enery Star certified metal roofs can reduce cooling costs and energy consumption by as much as 40% by reflecting a high percentage of the sun's energy back into the atmosphere.

Reduces The Urban Heat Island Effect - In many urban areas of North America, the prevalent use of energy-absorbing building materials such as asphalt shingles, concrete, and pavements can create a microclimate wherein temperatures are higher than surrounding rural areas. These materials absorb and store large amounts of solar energy during the day, causing ambient temperatures to remain unnaturally high, sometimes by as much as 12 F. These higher temperatures lead to a host of other problems, including increased energy consumption and a greater incidence of ozone and smog formation. Studies have shown that reducing ambient temperatures by as little as one half degree can reduce smog by 5%.

Energy Star Certified metal roofs help mitigate this phenomenon by reflecting a high percentage of the sun's energy back into the atmosphere, reducing heat buildup. So not only can you lower your own utility bills, you can do your part to ensure a healthy environment in your community.

                                                                            BUILDING GREEN WITH TITANIUM UNDERLAYMENT

*TITANIUM (tm) UDL products are a 100% polymeric based material, and therefore, are fully recyclable unlike traditional asphalt felt paper, which are asphalt and paper and are dumped into landfill.

*TITANIUM (tm) UDL may contain 5% post industrial recycle content, which reduces waste in landfills and conserves energy.

*1 TL of TITANIUM (tm) UDL replaces 6 TL of black felt! This means less asphalt in the environment,a tremendous saving of fuel and reduced pollution.

*TITANIUM (tm) UDL products are rated for 30 or 50 years, which means longer roof life and durability, thus reducing the need to replace decaying felt over time.

*TITANIUM (tm) UDL products produce no toxic emissions during manufacture, unlike felt saturation plants, which are highly toxic in the fumes generated.

*TITANIUM (tm) UDL products are 100% inert to moisture absorption, unlike asphalt felt paper, therefore the incidence of water breach and mold feeding of the product is eliminated.
Why is Galvalume® sheet called by other names? Are all of these products the same?
The product is a 55% aluminum-45% zinc alloy coated sheet steel developed by Bethlehem Steel and sold commercially under the trademark Galvalume®, starting in June 1972. Bethlehem Steel later licensed other major steel companies to produce and sell the product using its patents and technology. In North America, the Galvalume® trademark is used by Bethlehem Steel, Dofasco Inc. (Canada), National Steel Corp., U.S. Steel and Wheeling-Nisshin, Inc. In Central and South America, Industrias Monterrey (Mexico) markets the product under the trademark Zintro-Alum, while Galvak S.A. de C.V. uses the trademark Galval. Steelscape, Inc. uses the trademark ZINCALUME®. All of these products are the same generic 55% Al-Zn coated shee steel made by the same process using the same technology.
Why is it a good material for roofing?
Galvalume® sheet is an ideal material for roofing because of its extraordinary outdoor corrosion resistance and resulting long life. It can be readily rollformed into a variety of panels, as well as formed and stamped into tile and shingle facsimiles. It can also be factory painted to impart color and extend durability. Most important, it can be used in modern day steel roof designs which are strong, yet light weight. And unlike conventional nonmetallic roof systems, Galvalume® sheet roofs won't crack and peel when subjected to the sun and weather.
How does the corrosion resistance of Galvalume® sheet compare with that of galvanized sheet, and how long can a Galvalume® sheet roof be expected to last?
Galvalume® sheet has been successfully used in roofing applications for more than 25 years; it has been evaluated in outdoor R&D tests for well over 30 years. Based on these tests, in which corrosion weight losses were measured and compared with galvanized, Galvalume® sheet is projected to outlast galvanized sheet (with an equivalent coating thickness) in various atmospheres by up to nine times.
What is the life of a prepainted Galvalume® roof or wall?
From a practical standpoint, the life of a prepainted Galvalume® panel is dictated by the performance of the paint film, i.e., appearance as affected by conditions of fade, chalk and peel, and the life of the paint film is determined by the type of paint system and the weathering conditions to which it is exposed.Paint systems applied on modern coil coating lines can be expected to provide good to excellent performance in nearly every environment. The most commonly used topcoats are acrylics, polyesters, siliconized polyesters, fluoropolymers and plastisols. When combined with chemical pretreatments and high-performance primers, these topcoats enhance adhesion of the paint film to the metal coating and increase overall corrosion resistance, particularly at cut edges, scratches and bends.
Can pressure-treated wood be used in contact with bare and prepainted Galvalume® sheet?
Contact with pressure-treated wood or, for that matter, any wet lumber is not recommended for either bare or prepainted Galvalume® sheet. Treated lumber contains chemicals that protect the wood when buried in soils. Direct contact between wet treated lumber and Galvalume® sheet creates a corrosion cell and the corrosive chemicals leaching out of from the wood accelerates this process.
What is the reflectivity of Galvalume® sheet?
Galvalume® sheet has good heat and sunlight reflectivity. Its bright, white reflective surface makes it an ideal material for roofing. During the summer it makes buildings cooler by efficiently reflecting away sunlight and reducing the amount of heat transmitted into the building. Likewise, it makes buildings warmer in the winter by reflecting inside heat from the underside of the roof back into the building. This good thermal reflectivity translates into energy savings by reducing cooling costs in the summer and heating costs in the winter. Tests have shown that only half as much heat from solar radiation is transmitted into a building fitted with a Galvalume® roof compared to a galvanized roof, and almost one-third less heat compared to a terra-cotta roof.

                                        Why Metal?

Excellent Upgrade
Metal roofing will make your home more attractive, weather resistant,Increases the value of your home and is energy efficient.

Long Warranty & Low Maintenance
With your Allmetal Metal Roofing sytem, long warranty against rusting, chipping, crackling, peeling, flaking, fading and chalking, you can expect extroidinary protection from wind, sun, heat and rain.

Weather Resistance
Metal roofs are one of the most durable and weather resistant roofing materials on the market today and have the highest UL ratings for fire, wind, and impact resistance. In most areas, metal roofs can be expected to last three or more times longer than a comparable asphalt shingle roof. In areas with extreme heat, wind, humidity, or temperature extremes, this advantage can be even greater.

Wind/Hurricane Resistance -
Due to the way metal roofing panels are constructed and installed, they have extremely high resistance to wind damage. Unlike shingles, tile, or shake, vertical seam metal roofs are installed with a continuous piece that extends the entire way from the eave (lowest part of the roof) to the ridge (highest part of the roof). This greatly minimizes the areas where winds and precipitation can penetrate beneath the roof material and cause damage. In addition, metal roofs have the highest strength to weight ratio of any roofing material and are mechanically attached to the roof deck with screws, creating a roof that can withstand many times the stress loads of most other products.NO MORE SHINGLE BLOW-OFFS!
The extreme wind resistance of metal roofs has been vividly demonstrated in the hurricane areas of Florida. Metal roofs in these areas typically suffered no damage, while asphalt shingle and tile roof damage was extensive. Because of this, metal roofing has become increasing popular as homeowners grow weary of constantly repairing their current roofs. One way Florida has responded is by enacting stricter building codes.

LifeCycle Costs -
A metal roof can save you a lot of money on upkeep and maintenance over the life of the roof. In fact, metal is the most maintenance-free roofing material on the market today. In most applications, a metal roof will require no ongoing maintenance for the life of the roof. You can forget about shingle blow-offs, cracking, buckling, and unsightly discoloration.
If we use an average example of a metal roof with a 50 year life and an asphalt shingle roof with a 16 year life, you can expect to save about 65% in total costs over the life of the roof. This calculation includes initial installation and re-roof expenditures, but ignores any emergency maintenance costs, so your savings would likely be even higher, especially in severe weather areas.

Energy Efficient -
Americans spend about $40 billion annually to air condition buildings - which equates to about one sixth of all electricity generated in this country. Studies conducted by the Cool Metal Roofing Coalition and Oak Ridge National Laboratory have shown that metal roofing with Energy Star certified high reflectance paint systems can save you up to 40% on cooling costs when compared to typical asphalt shingles.
Your typical dark asphalt shingle absorbs most of the solar radiation that hits it, consequently making your attic a very hot place during the summer months. On the contrary, Energy Star certified metal roofing works by reflecting a high percentage of the sun's energy back into the atmosphere, lowering attic temperatures and subsequent cooling loads.
We offer several colors that are Energy Star certified. In order to meet Energy Star criteria, the roof has to have a total solar reflectance of at least 25%, which means that the roof reflects 25% of the sun's energy. In general, lighter colors have better reflectivity.
In the summer the reflective paint will reflect sunlight away from the roof, and in the winter it will help retain heat  inside your home. You could typically see up to a 40% lower energy bill.

Algae,Mold,Mildew Staining
Another advantage that's often overlooked is metal's inherent resistance to staining from mold, mildew, and airborne algae. If you live in a humid climate, you've probably seen the unsightly black staining that often occurs on asphalt shingle roofs after a few years. This phenomenon is caused by airborne algae that collect on the roof and then grow in moist areas, producing stains that look like black streaks. Since asphalt shingles can absorb moisture and stay damp for extended periods of time, they can create a fertile environment for the growth of these and other microorganisms. Metal roofs are very resistant to this type of staining for several reasons. First, the smooth, hard surfaces of metal roofs make if difficult for airborne debris, dust, and plant materials to collect. Also, metal roofs don't absorb water, eliminating the damp, fertile, environment that can lead to growth. Finally, metal roofs can be thoroughly cleaned without risking damage to the roof.
